Frequently Asked Questions
How to apply for bail?
Applying for bail in New Zealand means formally asking the court to release you from custody while your case is ongoing. The process can be complex—but having the right support can make all the difference. Here’s how it works:
1. Talk to us—or your lawyer—first
If you or a family member is considering applying for bail, the first step is to speak with us or your lawyer as early as possible.
We can help you:
• Understand what’s involved in a bail application
• Assess whether you meet the criteria for bail
• Identify what support, supervision, or accommodation may strengthen your case
If you already have a lawyer, we’re happy to work alongside them to provide documentation, a verified address, or support plans to help the court feel confident in granting bail.
If you don’t have a lawyer, we can connect you with one and guide you through the process step by step.
2. Secure a suitable bail address
The court must be satisfied that you have a safe, stable place to stay while on bail. This is often one of the biggest barriers to bail being granted.
This is where we can help.
Specialist Support Services (Triple S) offers structured, court-approved accommodation for people on bail or parole. Our facilities meet all requirements for electronic monitoring (EM), and we provide detailed support plans tailored to each individual.
Some of our locations offer 24-hour, seven-day-a-week monitored security, including licensed security personnel and surveillance cameras. These features give the court additional confidence that you will be safely supervised and compliant with any conditions imposed—especially in higher-risk or EM bail cases.
We’ve worked with lawyers, families, and clients across New Zealand to secure bail placements for high-risk individuals, providing the court with the structure, supervision, and reassurance needed to support a successful application.
3. Submit a formal bail application
Your lawyer (or duty solicitor) will prepare and submit your application to the court. This may include:
• A verified bail address (such as one of our facilities)
• A daily routine and programme schedule
• Agreed conditions (e.g., curfew, no contact orders)
For EM bail, Corrections and the EM provider must also assess and approve the proposed address. We manage this process and can help speed things up.
4. Attend the bail hearing
The court will review your application at a bail hearing. The judge will consider:
• The nature of the charges
• Your criminal history (if any)
• Risk of reoffending or not attending court
• The quality of your proposed support and accommodation
Our involvement—through formal letters of support and proven success with past clients—can significantly strengthen your application.
5. Comply with bail conditions
If granted, it’s essential that you follow all conditions of your bail. Breaching bail can result in being returned to custody and damage your chances of future release options.

Visiting Times & Guidelines
Visiting hours are strictly on Wednesdays and Sundays from 1:00pm to 5:00pm.
All visit requests must be initiated by the resident (defendant) currently onsite.
Any additional visit outside these set hours must be approved in advance by management.
We understand the importance of staying connected with your whānau, children, and friends during this challenging time, and we do our best to accommodate that support. However, out of respect for other residents and our neighbours, visiting hours are limited.
Please note: All visitors, especially children, must be supervised at all times during their visit.
Do Triple SSS accept residents on Electronic Monitoring (EM) Bail or Parole?
Yes. We regularly accommodate individuals on EM Bail or Parole. Our facilities are appropriately supervised and our systems are designed to support residents under electronic monitoring conditions, while ensuring compliance with all legal requirements.
What kind of conditions will I be subject to if I’m granted acceptance into the SSS programme?
If you are accepted into the Specialist Support Services (Triple S) programme, you will be required to follow a structured set of conditions that are designed to support your rehabilitation, promote accountability, and help you move forward in a positive direction.
One of the core conditions is a 24/7 residential curfew, meaning you must remain at your assigned Triple S property at all times unless attending a scheduled programme activity or appointment. These activities are strictly supervised and typically carried out in a group setting, accompanied by a Triple S staff member.
You will also be expected to fully participate in all compulsory elements of the programme, which may include:
- Drug and alcohol recovery sessions
- Anger management and behavioural change programmes
- Life skills, budgeting, and goal-setting workshops
- Group-based social and reintegration activities
- Weekly one-on-one mentoring or life coaching sessions
Other conditions may include:
- Random drug and alcohol testing
- No unauthorised visitors (all visits must be approved in advance)
- No drugs, alcohol, or banned substances permitted on site
- Daily check-ins with Triple S staff
- Strict adherence to house rules and curfew times
These conditions are designed not as punishment, but as support—helping you stay focused, stay safe, and build a better path forward.
Does Triple SSS accept individuals with gang affiliations?
Yes. We assess all applications on a case-by-case basis, and we do not discriminate.
Will Triple SSS consider individuals with serious charges?
Yes. We are experienced in working with individuals facing a wide range of charges, including serious offences. Each case is carefully reviewed to ensure the placement is safe, appropriate, and supports both the resident and the wider community.
Is Specialist Support Services (SSS) government funded?
No. Specialist Support Services is not government funded. We operate independently and rely on private funding, resident contributions, and external support to provide our services
How to apply for parole?
Parole is the legal process that allows a person in prison to be released early under strict conditions. It’s not automatic—you have to apply, and the Parole Board must be convinced that you’re ready to safely return to the community. Here’s how the process works and how we can help.
1. Start preparing early
The Parole Board will assess whether you’ve addressed the issues that led to your offending—and whether you have a safe, structured plan in place for your release. The earlier you start preparing, the better your chances.
You or your support person should begin working on your parole plan well before your eligibility date. This includes:
- Attending relevant rehabilitation or treatment programmes
- Maintaining good behaviour in prison
- Developing a detailed release plan with housing, support, and supervision
We can help you or your family build a strong release plan that includes verified accommodation, supervision, and programme support—key things the Parole Board looks for when considering release.
2. Submit a release plan with your application
Before a parole hearing, the Parole Board will request a written release plan. This must include:
- Where you’ll live after release
- What support systems and services will be in place
- How you’ll manage your risk factors (e.g., substance use, negative peer influences)
- What supervision or rehabilitation you’ll continue after release
Specialist Support Services (Triple S) provides court- and parole-approved accommodation with structured daily routines, group programmes, and one-on-one support. Many of our clients include our services in their parole plans to show the Board they’re committed to change.
3. Secure a suitable address
Your proposed address is one of the most critical parts of your release plan. The Parole Board wants to see that:
- You’ll be living in a stable, drug-free, and supportive environment
- You won’t be living with people who pose a risk to your progress
- You’re under suitable supervision, especially if you’re high-risk or subject to EM
At Triple S, we provide safe, structured, and approved accommodation options that meet these requirements. Some of our sites also offer 24/7 monitored security with licensed staff and surveillance cameras—giving the Board confidence that conditions will be safely managed.
We’ve helped many clients successfully gain parole by offering the structure and oversight needed to support safe reintegration into the community.
4. Attend the Parole Board hearing
At your hearing, the Parole Board will review your file and release plan. You’ll be given the chance to speak and answer questions. They’ll assess:
- Whether you’re likely to comply with conditions
- Whether you pose an undue risk to the community
- Whether you have insight into your offending and a clear plan to move forward
Having a well-documented release plan and strong support—like a placement with Triple S—can make a significant difference.
5. If approved, follow your release conditions
If parole is granted, you’ll be released on a set date and must follow all the conditions imposed. These may include:
- Electronic monitoring
- Curfews or location restrictions
- Participation in specific programmes
- Regular reporting to your probation officer
We help our clients stay on track by offering daily structure, ongoing mentoring, and reporting that can be shared with Probation and other agencies.
